CT, was it you that I was talking to about this series of Picasso paintings based on Las Meninas?

Leontinemay, this Leyendecker ‘Arrow Shirt Man’ painting was featured at the Brooklyn Museum’s fantastic exhibit about desire and difference in American portraiture last year (Hide/Seek — I’m constantly citing it).
Basically, it was shown as an example of homosociality and homoeroticism in American illustration and advertising. Isn’t that awesome?
I know. These paintings are so romantic, especially considering that the model for the Arrow Shirt man was Leyendecker’s lifelong partner, Charles Beach. I also really love this one:

If I manage to drag you all to the Soc. of Illustrators tonight, I think they have a couple in their permanent collection. Possibly including this one? I can’t remember.

Oh my gosh, someone tagged me in something. I have arrived.
